Argentieri, head of the Justice Department\u2019s Criminal Division. \u201cOur democracy depends on the willingness of election workers to do their jobs without having to live in fear.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court documents, on or about Nov. 10, 2020, Andrew Nickels, 38, of Carmel, called the clerk of a local municipality and left a voicemail threatening to kill the local official. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As part of the message, Nickels said, in part, \u201cWe\u2019re watching your\u2026mouth talk about how you think that there\u2019s no irregularities \u2026 [Y]ou frauded out America of a real election.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Nickels then told the clerk that \u201cyou\u2019re gonna pay for it,\u201d and described how \u201cten million plus patriots will surround you when you least expect it.\u201d He continued, in relevant part: \u201c[W]e\u2019ll [expletive] kill you\u2026[Y]ou will [expletive] pay for your [expletive] lying ass remarks \u2026 We will [expletive] take you out. Ison for the Eastern District of Michigan. \u201cThis sentence should send a clear message that those who seeks to jeopardize the fair and free administration of our elections with threats of violence its partners will not tolerate threats against our election workers,\u201d said Executive Assistant Director Michael Nordwall of the FBI\u2019s Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch. \u201cToday\u2019s sentencing shows our commitment to ensuring that public servants can do their jobs without fear of retribution.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Nickels\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/man-pleads-guilty-making-threat-michigan-election-worker\">pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0on Feb. 27 to one count of making a threatening interstate communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The FBI Detroit Field Office investigated the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Trial Attorney Tanya Senanayake of the National Security Division\u2019s Counterterrorism Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Frances Lee
