Talbot routinely ignored signs that individuals frequenting Medex were drug-seeking or abusing the drugs prescribed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In 2015, Talbot took a full-time job in Pineville, Louisiana. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Although he was no longer physically present at the Slidell clinic, he pre-signed prescriptions, including for opioids and other controlled substances, to be distributed to individuals there whom he did not see or examine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In 2016, Talbot hired another practitioner who, at Talbot\u2019s direction, also pre-signed prescriptions to be distributed in the same manner at the Slidell clinic in exchange for cash deposited into the Medex account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12016 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Department-of-Veterans-Affairs-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Department-of-Veterans-Affairs-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Department-of-Veterans-Affairs-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Department-of-Veterans-Affairs.jpg 481w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The evidence also demonstrated that Talbot falsified patient records to cover up the scheme. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">With Talbot&#8217;s knowledge, individuals used their insurance benefits to fill prescriptions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">This led to fraudulent billing of health care programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross Blue Shi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">eld of Louisiana, for prescriptions issued without proper patient examinations or medical necessity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The jury convicted Talbot of several charges: one count of conspiracy to unlawfully distribute and dispense controlled substances, four counts of unlawfully distributing and dispensing controlled substances, one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, and one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-229 alignleft\" style=\"font-size: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png\" alt=\"&quot;Goon Squad&quot; Shooter Sentenced to 20 Years for Firing at Police\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI.png 615w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, the FBI, and the Louisiana Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated this case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Trial Attorneys Sara E. Porter and Gary A.
