Two other co-defendants, Etenia Kinard, 48, and Jacelyn Greenwell, 45, had already pleaded guilty to the conspiracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The evidence showed that the defendants were former high-ranking members of the United Nation of Islam (UNOI) or wives of its founder, Royall Jenkins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Jenkins had been a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/what-is-the-nation-of-islam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nation of Islam<\/a> until 1978, when he founded the separate United Nation of Islam. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">He persuaded his followers that he was shown the proper way to rule the Earth after being &#8220;taken through the galaxy by aliens on a spaceship,&#8221; according to the indictment. Brubacher for the District of Kansas. \u201cIn childhood, they suffered physical and emotional abuse, were denied a proper education, and were subject to forced labor. They also provided childcare and domestic work in the defendants&#8217; homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">None of the victims were paid for their years of work. They lived in overcrowded, filthy conditions, while the defendants and their families lived comfortably. (FOX4 News Kansas City)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The minors did not receive an education from an accredited and licensed school but instead worked excessive hours for UNOI\u2019s financial benefit. UNOI\u2019s unlicensed and unaccredited school or \u201cuniversity\u201d was little more than a vehicle for extracting unpaid labor and publicly humiliating victims who violated one of UNOI\u2019s many rules.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The defendants controlled the following:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">(1) what the victims viewed and read<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">(2) how the victims dressed<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> (3) how the victims addressed the defendants and others<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> (4) with whom the victims communicated <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">(5) where the victims went<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> (6) what the victims ate to ensure that the victims, particularly the females, maintained a certain weight. style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The FBI Kansas City Field Office investigated this case, with the assistance of the Departments of Labor and New York State Department of Labor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Huschka for the District of Kansas and Trial Attorneys Kate Alexander, Maryam Zhuravitsky and Francisco Zornosa of the Civil Rights Division\u2019s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit are prosecuting the
