\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) announced the results of Operation Nazare Wave, targeting violent crime in Washington, D.C., and the National Capital Region. <\/span><\/p>\n

From April to September, under the direction of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), there were 826 arrests, including 63 for homicide, the recovery of 54 firearms, the seizure of 6.4 kg of drugs, and the recovery of over $1.1 million in cash.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis successful operation reflects the collaborative approach the Justice Department has taken to turn the tide against violent crime,\u201d said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. \u201cFrom April to September, the U.S. Marshals Service brought together more than 30 law enforcement agencies spanning the Washington, D.C. area to arrest 826 fugitives and seize significant quantities of firearms and narcotics. I am deeply grateful to every Deputy U.S. Marshal and law enforcement partner who took part in this operation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Operation Nazare Wave aimed to reduce violent crime in the National Capital Region (NCR), but arrests were made across 19 districts in the U.S. and internationally. Some fugitives from the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area fled to other regions, while others wanted outside the DMV were captured after entering the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

  • The New York\/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force and Prince George’s County police assisted Guyana authorities in locating Rakeem Gilgeours on July 31 using information from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF).<\/span><\/li>\n

    The Southern District of West Virginia Violent Offender Task Force, working with CARFTF, detained Emmanuel Sewell, a registered sex offender, on June 1 in Putnam County, West Virginia. Sewell was wanted in Montgomery County, Maryland, for the May 31 murder of his probation officer, David Martinez, at Martinez\u2019s home in Chevy Chase.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n

  • On April 29, CARFTF arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in Suitland, Maryland, for aggravated assault with a gun and attempted murder following an April 19 shooting at a Greenbelt park where a large group of youth had gathered for a senior skip day. A search warrant executed at the suspect\u2019s mother\u2019s house, where he\u2019d been staying, yielded $246,780 in currency, 40.5 grams of crack cocaine, and two handguns.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
