\"\"\u00a0Maureen Wilson of Owings Mills, Maryland faces up to 20 years in prison when she is sentenced for conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, along with wire fraud, money laundering, and filing false tax returns, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson was convicted this week by a federal jury. She also faces additional prison time for filing false tax returns. <\/span><\/p>\n

She will be sentenced on June 20.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prosecutors stated that Wilson and her husband, James Wilson, defrauded insurance companies by securing more than 40 life insurance policies under false pretenses, misrepresenting applicants’ health, wealth, and existing coverage. <\/span><\/p>\n

The policies carried death benefits exceeding $20 million. She also deceived investors to fund the fraudulent policies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple funneled proceeds through multiple bank accounts, including trusts, to hide the scheme. According to officials, Wilson failed to report $5.7 million in 2018 and $2 million in 2019 on her tax returns.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was convicted of conspiracy, multiple counts of mail and wire fraud, money laundering, and filing false tax returns, but she was acquitted of one mail fraud charge.<\/span><\/p>\n
