Lerma and Valencia Gonzalez were also convicted of drug conspiracy involving meth and heroin. Gonzalez and Valencia Gonzalez were found guilty of firearm possession as felons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"982\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">All defendants have been in federal custody since 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1138\" data-end=\"1331\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">FBI Assistant Director Akil Davis said the case highlights how Mexican Mafia operations extend beyond prison walls. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1138\" data-end=\"1331\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">The FBI and local law enforcement worked for years to dismantle this network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1546\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">Evidence showed that from 2012 to 2020, Lerma controlled drug proceeds from Latino gangs in Pomona and inmates in Calipatria State Prison. His group also engaged in drug trafficking, robbery, fraud, and extortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1742\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">In June 2020, acting on Lerma\u2019s orders, Gonzalez, Valencia Gonzalez, and Sanchez murdered an inmate\u2014identified only as &#8220;S.B.&#8221;\u2014over unpaid drug debts tied to Lerma\u2019s faction of the Mexican Mafia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1744\" data-end=\"1848\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">U.S. District Judge George H. Wu will set sentencing dates soon. That includes <strong data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"1942\">Cheryl Perez-Castaneda<\/strong>, 62, serving 12 years for soliciting murder and aiding a 2013 carjacking attempt. <strong data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2044\">Kelly Deshannon<\/strong>, 43, is serving over seven years for robbery, extortion, and narcotics trafficking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2314\"><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">The FBI\u2019s San Gabriel Valley Safe Streets Task Force led the investigation with help from the Pomona and El Monte Police Departments, the L.A.
