The letters, disguised as official bank notices, lured victims into paying supposed fees, taxes, and bribes to secure their \u201cinheritance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"679\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In reality, there was no inheritance\u2014only a web of lies. Victims were pressured to send payments through intermediaries, often other scam victims, who unknowingly assisted in laundering the funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"relative flex-col gap-1 md:gap-3\">\n<div class=\"flex max-w-full flex-col grow\">\n<div class=\"min-h-8 text-message relative flex w-full flex-col items-end gap-2 text-start break-words whitespace-normal [.text-message+&amp;]:mt-5\" dir=\"auto\" data-message-author-role=\"assistant\" data-message-id=\"34696f81-7700-4503-866c-2cb603fe6b70\" data-message-model-slug=\"gpt-4o\">\n<div class=\"flex w-full flex-col gap-1 empty:hidden first:pt-[3px]\">\n<div class=\"markdown prose dark:prose-invert w-full break-words light\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"875\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Ogbata pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme that defrauded over 400 victims out of more than $6 million. Most of the victims were elderly or otherwise vulnerable, and none received a dime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"875\"><span style=\"font-size:
