Perez, 56, owner of several Orange County-based staffing companies, was sentenced <strong>to eight years in federal prison<\/strong> and ordered to pay <strong data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"265\">$38 million in restitution<\/strong> for evading nearly <strong data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"317\">$30 million in payroll taxes<\/strong> and filing false tax returns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"349\" data-end=\"633\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Perez, who lived in Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda, and Dove Canyon, pleaded guilty in <strong data-start=\"432\" data-end=\"450\">September 2024<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"469\">tax evasion<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"516\">aiding in the filing of a false return<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"349\" data-end=\"633\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">U.S. District Judge Kenly Kiya Kato handed down the sentence, calling his fraud \u201castonishing\u201d in scope and impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"635\" data-end=\"1038\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">From <strong data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"656\">2001 to 2017<\/strong>, Perez\u2019s companies \u2014 including Checkmates Staffing, Staffaide, BaronHR, and Fortress Holding Group \u2014 withheld but failed to pay employee payroll taxes, amassing nearly $30 million in liabilities.
