They remain at large. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"741\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Stepanov faces multiple charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud, identity theft, and wiretapping. Kalinkin faces conspiracy and computer fraud charges and could face up to <strong data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"727\">72 years in prison<\/strong> if convicted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"1159\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court documents, DanaBot spread via malicious email attachments and links, hijacking computers into a <strong data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"877\">botnet-for-hire<\/strong> operation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"1159\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The malware was rented to cybercriminals for thousands of dollars a month. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"1159\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">It enabled the theft of banking credentials, browser data, cryptocurrency wallets, and full remote control of infected machines. This version secretly recorded and exfiltrated data to separate servers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1388\" data-end=\"1606\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u201cThe enforcement actions announced today, made possible by enduring law enforcement and industry partnerships across the globe, disrupted a significant cyber threat group, who were profiting from the theft of victim data and the targeting of sensitive networks,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge Kenneth DeChellis of the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General, Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Cyber Field Office. \u201cThe DanaBot malware was a clear threat to the Department of Defense and our partners. DCIS will vigorously defend our infrastructure, personnel, and intellectual property.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" title=\"\" data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"1863\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The FBI and the <strong data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1673\">Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS)<\/strong> led the investigation with international support from law enforcement in Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia, as part of <strong data-start=\"1799\" data-end=\"1820\">Operation Endgame<\/strong>, a coordinated global cybercrime takedown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2094\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Seizures included DanaBot\u2019s command-and-control infrastructure
