The U.S. filed suit in 2023 against SCE and its contractor, Utility Tree Service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"926\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThis record settlement provides meaningful compensation to taxpayers and reinforces our commitment to protecting public lands,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" title=\"\" data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1044\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Though SCE admitted no wrongdoing, the utility agreed to pay the full amount within 60 days of the May 14 agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1165\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThis funding is vital to restoring fire-damaged landscapes and wildlife habitats,\u201d said U.S. Forest Service officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1167\" data-end=\"1290\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Forest Service conducted the investigation.
