VIRGINIA<\/strong> – A Colombian man extradited to \u00a0Virginia plead guilty Thursday for his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent James Terry Watson in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, on June 20, 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s guilty plea is an important step forward in holding those responsible for the murder of DEA Special Agent Terry Watson accountable for their heinous crime,\u201d said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. \u201cDEA will not rest until all of those responsible for this tragedy face justice. Our thoughts and prayers continue for the Watson family, and DEA remains grateful for the dedicated U.S. and Colombian team of investigators and prosecutors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julio Estiven Gracia Ramirez<\/strong>, 31, plead guilty before U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the Eastern District of Virginia to aiding and abetting the murder of an internationally protected person and conspiracy to kidnap an internationally protected person.<\/p>\n

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.<\/p>\n

Six other defendants have been charged in an indictment in the Eastern District of Virginia for their alleged involvement in the murder of Special Agent Watson. Gerardo Figueroa Sepulveda, 39; Omar Fabian Valdes Gualtero, 27; Edgar Javier Bello Murillo, 27; Hector Leonardo Lopez, 34; and Andr\u00e9s Alvaro Oviedo-Garcia, 22,<\/strong> are each charged with second degree murder, kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap.<\/p>\n

Oviedo-Garcia is also charged with assault. Wilson Daniel Peralta-Bocachica<\/strong>, 31, is charged for his alleged efforts to destroy evidence associated with the murder of Watson.<\/p>\n

Trial is set for Jan. 12, 2015.<\/p>\n

According to the indictment, Figueroa, Valdes, Bello, Lopez, Gracia and Oviedo-Garcia were part of a kidnapping and robbery conspiracy that utilized taxi cabs in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, to lure victims into a position where they could be attacked and robbed.<\/p>\n

Once an intended victim entered a taxi cab, the driver of the taxi cab would signal other conspirators to commence the robbery and kidnapping operation.<\/p>\n

The indictment alleges that on June 20, 2013, while he was working for the U.S. Mission in Colombia, Watson entered a taxi cab operated by one of the defendants. Watson was then allegedly attacked by two other defendants \u2013 one who stunned Watson with a stun gun and another who stabbed him with a knife, resulting in his death.<\/p>\n
