The Justice Department Wednesday announced the results of Operation Grayskull<\/em>, a sweeping joint investigation with the FBI that shut down four dark web sites trafficking in child sexual abuse material (CSAM).<\/span><\/p>\n So far, 18 individuals have been convicted, collectively receiving more than 300 years in prison<\/strong>. Among them: a Minnesota man sentenced yesterday to 250 months behind bars<\/strong>, lifetime supervised release<\/strong>, and ordered to pay $23,000 in restitution<\/strong> for his role in operating one of the sites.<\/span><\/p>\n The operation represents a significant blow to online child exploitation networks and a continued commitment by federal authorities to track, expose, and prosecute those who traffic in abuse and exploitation.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of Operation Grayskull<\/em>, Thomas Peter Katsampes, 52, of Eagan, Minnesota, pleaded guilty on Feb. 27 to conspiracy to advertise and distribute child pornography. He joined a dark website in 2022, posted and shared CSAM\u2014some involving prepubescent children\u2014and rose to a staff role, helping moderate content, enforce posting rules, and guide users in evading detection.<\/span><\/p>\n In total, eight individuals were sentenced in the Southern District of Florida<\/strong> for running the primary site. Sentences ranged from 23 years to life<\/strong>, including:<\/span><\/p>\n William Spearman<\/strong> (Madison, AL): Life in prison for running a child exploitation enterprise.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Joseph Martin<\/strong> (Tahuya, WA): 42 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Matthew Garrell<\/strong> (Raleigh, NC): Nearly 21 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Gregory Good<\/strong> (Silver Springs, NV): Nearly 26 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Selwyn Rosenstein<\/strong> (Boynton Beach, FL): 28 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Robert Boyles<\/strong> (Clarksville, TN): 23 years, 4 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Joseph Stewart<\/strong> (Milton, WA): 23 years, 9 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Keith McIntosh<\/strong> (Grand Rapids, MI): 55 years, enhanced due to a prior CSAM conviction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The FBI shut down four dark websites<\/strong>, with nine additional U.S. offenders convicted in other districts:<\/span><\/p>\n Charles Hand<\/strong> (MD): 14 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Michael Ibarra<\/strong> (WA): 12 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Clay Trimble<\/strong> (AR): 18 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n David Craig<\/strong> (TX): 9 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Robert Rella<\/strong> (VA): 5 years, 8 months<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Samuel Hicks<\/strong> (IN): 16 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Richard Smith<\/strong> (TX): 14 years<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Patrick Harrison<\/strong> (MI): 5 years, 10 months<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Thomas Gailus<\/strong> (OK): Sentencing pending<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Two additional U.S. suspects died before indictment.
