Henghold Surgery Center, an ambulatory facility wholly owned by Dr. William B. Henghold, closed in 2023. Both entities performed wound repairs following Mohs micrographic surgery, a technique used to remove skin cancer, officials allege.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" title=\"\" data-start=\"296\" data-end=\"605\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5061 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Department-of-Health-and-Human-Services-Inspector-General.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Department-of-Health-and-Human-Services-Inspector-General.jpg 298w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Department-of-Health-and-Human-Services-Inspector-General-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/>\u201cSchemes that cause Medicare to pay for costlier services than were actually performed waste taxpayer funding, threatening the integrity of this federal health care program,\u201d said Deputy Inspector General for Investigations Christian J. Schrank of the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" title=\"\" data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"1050\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to the U.S. government, the two entities submitted inflated claims to Medicare by \u201cupcoding\u201d\u2014using billing codes that overstated the complexity of the procedures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" title=\"\" data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"1050\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Specifically, they allegedly billed simple linear wound repairs as more complex flap repairs and claimed smaller flap repairs as if they were larger, more expensive ones.
