He also funneled money to individuals with whom he had personal or business ties\u2014again, without the victim\u2019s knowledge or consent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1309\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Dawood further manipulated the victim into transferring ownership of his home and other inherited real estate to shell companies. He falsely claimed the victim would retain ownership stakes through these entities, which were, in reality, controlled by Dawood and his associates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1311\" data-end=\"1428\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In total, Dawood embezzled <strong data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1352\">$2.2 million<\/strong>\u00a0using the stolen money to purchase properties in La Crescenta and Fontana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1673\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1477\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7857 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo-289x300.png\" alt=\"FBI Latest Hate Crime Report: Hate Crimes Down Slightly in America\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo-289x300.png 289w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo.png 636w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/>U.S. District Judge James V. Selna<\/strong> has scheduled Dawood\u2019s sentencing for <strong data-start=\"1516\" data-end=\"1530\">Dec. 8<\/strong>, where he faces a maximum of <strong data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1616\">20 years in federal prison for each wire fraud count<\/strong> and up to <strong data-start=\"1627\" data-end=\"1672\">10 years for each money laundering charge<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1833\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The case was investigated by the <strong data-start=\"1708\" data-end=\"1715\">FBI<\/strong> and prosecuted by <strong data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1804\">Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kristin N. Spencer and Melissa S.
