His sister, Mar\u00eda Alejandra Medina, 52, a U.S. citizen living in Mexico, received eight years and the same restitution order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"570\" data-end=\"758\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A jury convicted both last October of conspiracy to commit hostage taking and conspiracy to demand ransom. Mario Medina was also found guilty of making a foreign extortion communication, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"1081\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Prosecutors said Medina directed accomplices to kidnap neighbor \u201cR.V.\u201d in Mexico in November 2022, beating him and demanding ransom from the victim\u2019s family in Los Angeles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"1081\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-57623\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/gavel_1727379516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-39979 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/judge-gavel-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"West Virginia Woman Took Top Secrets, Committed Kidnapping\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/>The Medinas\u2019 nephew, Jos\u00e9 \u201cGordo\u201d Medina, 32, and Mar\u00eda Medina collected $30,000 at a San Ysidro McDonald\u2019s and smuggled the money back to Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1083\" data-end=\"1280\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Mexican authorities later rescued the victim from a trench where he had been left tied up.
