In several cases, their bodies were dumped in remote stretches of the Angeles National Forest, near Malibu and in the Santa Clarita Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"1200\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Prosecutors said the murders were committed between 2017 and 2019 by local MS-13 cliques that demanded violence as a means of promotion. Each killing, authorities said, was designed to \u201cgain entry to and maintain and increase position\u201d within the gang.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1220\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Defendants<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1221\" data-end=\"1520\" data-speechifyplaybackhighlighter-highlight=\"true\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-229 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png\" alt=\"&quot;Goon Squad&quot; Shooter Sentenced to 20 Years for Firing at Police\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI.png 615w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-57378\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/FBI_1724901137.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>Those convicted include <strong data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1268\">Walter Chavez Larin<\/strong>, 26, of Panorama City; <strong data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1326\">Roberto Alejandro Corado Ortiz<\/strong>, 30, of Baldwin Park; <strong data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1367\">Edwin Martinez<\/strong>, 28, of Cypress Park; <strong data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1423\">Bryan Alexander Rosales Arias<\/strong>, 28, of South Los Angeles; and <strong data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1486\">Erick Eduardo Rosales Arias<\/strong>, 27, also of South Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1522\" data-end=\"1860\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">All five were found guilty of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). Chavez, Corado, and Martinez were also convicted of multiple counts of murder in aid of racketeering. Each faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison when sentenced by U.S. District Judge Otis D. Wright II in July 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1862\" data-end=\"1893\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cBarbaric Acts of Violence\u201d<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2323\" data-end=\"2609\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Akil Davis, the F.B.I.\u2019s assistant director in Los Angeles, said the defendants \u201ccarried out barbaric attacks simply to enhance their rank,\u201d while Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna praised the \u201ctireless efforts\u201d of law enforcement that \u201cbrought justice to the victims\u2019 families.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2611\" data-end=\"2626\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Murders<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"2627\" data-end=\"2658\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court testimony:<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2662\" data-end=\"2804\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong data-start=\"2662\" data-end=\"2676\">June 2017:<\/strong> A self-proclaimed MS-13 leader was taken to the Angeles National Forest, stabbed and hacked to death, and nearly decapitated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2953\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2824\">October 2017:<\/strong> A suspected rival from the 18th Street gang was lured by two teenage girls, beaten, strangled, stabbed, and tossed off a cliff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2956\" data-end=\"3094\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong data-start=\"2956\" data-end=\"2970\">July 2018:<\/strong> Another 18th Street affiliate was shot in the head near Malibu by Corado and others; his body was dumped down a hillside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3097\" data-end=\"3248\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong data-start=\"3097\" data-end=\"3130\">December 2018 \u2013 January 2019:<\/strong> Martinez killed three men \u2014 a mistaken rival, a drug-using MS-13 associate, and a homeless man with a rival tattoo.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"3250\" data-end=\"3273\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A Broader Crackdown<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"3274\" data-end=\"3545\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Friday\u2019s verdicts bring to <strong data-start=\"3301\" data-end=\"3333\">25 the number of convictions<\/strong> secured in the sweeping federal case targeting MS-13\u2019s Los Angeles network.
