The claims focused on high-reimbursement medications, including blood thinners and inhalers used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1189\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court filings, Fakih masked the fraud by manipulating inventory records and shuffling the proceeds through various accounts before using the money for personal expenses. The total loss to Medicare reached roughly $4 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1319\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Fakih pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of healthcare fraud in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nabil Fakih, 50, of Wayne County, Michigan, received a 46-month sentence and was ordered to pay $4 million in restitution.
