{"id":60108,"date":"2025-12-03T16:05:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T00:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=60108"},"modified":"2025-12-03T16:05:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T00:05:15","slug":"el-chapo-son-joaquin-guzman-lopez-admits-to-federal-drug-crimes-in-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=60108","title":{"rendered":"\u2018El Chapo\u2019 Son Joaquin Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez Admits to Federal Drug Crimes in Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3918 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png\" alt=\"Two Men Arrested for Allegedly Operating One of the Largest Synthetic Drug Smuggling Rings\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Joaquin Guzman Lopez, who succeeded his father, Joaquin Guzman Loera, also known as \u201cEl Chapo,\u201d as one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, pleaded guilty Monday to federal drug charges, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez, who succeeded his father, Joaquin Guzman Loera, also known as \u201cEl Chapo,\u201d as one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, pleaded guilty to federal drug charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of drug conspiracy and one count of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez is facing up to life in prison at his sentencing, which has not yet been set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez has been detained in U.S. custody since his arrest in July 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Son of &#039;El Chapo&#039; confesses to drug trafficking and kidnapping in federal court\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/I8dncjBkg7M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez and his three brothers, collectively known as \u201cthe Chapitos,\u201d assumed leadership roles of the Sinaloa Cartel following El Chapo\u2019s arrest in 2016 and subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/joaquin-el-chapo-guzman-sinaloa-cartel-leader-convicted-running-continuing-criminal\">conviction<\/a>\u00a0in the Eastern District of New York. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez coordinated the transportation of drugs and precursor chemicals for the manufacture of drugs into Mexico, and the transportation of those drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, to the United States border, at times in shipments of hundreds or thousands of kilograms. He used a network of couriers affiliated with the cartel to smuggle the drugs into the United States using vehicles, rail cars, tunnels, aircraft, submersible vessels, and other means.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">After the drugs were distributed throughout the United States, individuals working for Guzman Lopez and others laundered and transferred the illicit proceeds from the United States to Mexico and elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">To protect the Sinaloa Cartel\u2019s operation, Guzman Lopez and his associates bribed corrupt public officials. They perpetrated violence against law enforcement officials, rival drug traffickers, and members of their own drug trafficking organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In addition to the drug offenses, officials stated that Guzman Lopez also stipulated to committing an international kidnapping offense. Guzman Lopez admitted to coordinating and committing the kidnapping in the hopes of receiving cooperation credit from the United States. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As stated in the plea agreement, the United States did not induce or condone the kidnapping, and Guzman Lopez will not receive any cooperation credit for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As part of his plea agreement, Guzman Lopez agreed to the entry of a personal money judgment for $80 million, which represents proceeds traceable to his offenses. Guzman Lopez also acknowledged that the crimes to which he is pleading guilty involved more than 36 kilograms of fentanyl, 90 kilograms of heroin, 450 kilograms of cocaine, 45 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 90,000 kilograms of marijuana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Guzman Lopez\u2019s three brothers \u2014 Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, and Ovidio Guzman Lopez \u2014 are also charged with drug trafficking in U.S. indictments<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On July 11, Ovidio Guzman Lopez\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndil\/pr\/ovidio-guzman-lopez-son-el-chapo-and-head-sinaloa-cartel-pleads-guilty-federal-drug\">pleaded guilty<\/a>\u00a0to federal drug charges in the Northern District of Illinois. He is awaiting sentencing. Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar are charged in both the Northern District of Illinois and Southern District of New York. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They are fugitives. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The U.S. State Department has issued rewards of up to $10 million for information leading to their arrests and convictions.
