\""GoonA San Fernando Valley man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for embezzling approximately $1.8 million<\/strong> from an estate left to an elderly victim by the victim\u2019s late brother.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jamal Nathan Dawood<\/span><\/span>, 55, also known as \u201cJimmy Dawood,\u201d was sentenced by Judge James V. Selna<\/span><\/span>, who ordered him to pay $1,862,352 in restitution<\/strong> and a $30,000 fine<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Prosecutors said that in 2019, Dawood offered to help the victim manage inherited real estate and retirement savings. He helped open a trust account, then transferred funds without authorization to accounts he controlled and to associates.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Dawood also persuaded the victim to transfer ownership of his home and inherited properties to companies he controlled, falsely claiming the victim would retain ownership interests.<\/span><\/p>\n

    In total, Dawood fraudulently obtained at least $1,862,352<\/strong> in money and property, using the funds to purchase real estate in La Crescenta and Fontana.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The FBI<\/strong> investigated the case, underscoring ongoing concerns about elder fraud<\/strong> and financial exploitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
