    \"TwoHaji Najibullah, 50, of Afghanistan, was sentenced to 42 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release for terrorism<\/strong>, hostage-taking<\/strong>, and supporting attacks that resulted in the deaths of U.S. soldiers<\/strong> and other victims in Afghanistan.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Najibullah, also known as “Najibullah Naim,” “Abu Tayeb,” “Atiqullah,” and “Nesar Ahmad Mohammad,” pleaded guilty on April 25, 2025, to hostage-taking<\/strong> and providing material support for terrorism resulting in death<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    According to court records, Najibullah participated in the hostage-taking of an American journalist<\/strong> and two Afghan nationals in Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2008 and 2009. He also led Taliban fighters<\/strong> who carried out attacks against U.S. servicemembers<\/strong> in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n
