data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"620\">45 months in federal prison<\/strong> for assaulting a <strong data-start=\"638\" data-end=\"656\">federal inmate<\/strong> and falsifying an official report to conceal the incident, officials announced Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"968\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Joshua Firmin,<\/strong> 49, was convicted in April 2026 following a three-day jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. <\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"968\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Jurors found him guilty of <strong data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"934\">deprivation of rights under color of law<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"967\">falsification of records<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"1147\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court records, the assault occurred on <strong data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1039\">Feb. 29, 2024<\/strong>, at the federal courthouse in <strong data-start=\"1070\" data-end=\"1094\">Lafayette, Louisiana<\/strong>, where Firmin was assigned to courthouse operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1456\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Prosecutors said Firmin learned that a prisoner awaiting a court appearance had made insulting comments about him to another courthouse employee. The inmate suffered a scalp laceration that required staples, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1842\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Authorities said Firmin later filed an official <strong data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1697\">use-of-force report<\/strong> falsely claiming the prisoner had attempted to spit on him and accidentally struck his head while resisting efforts to move him to another cell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"2049\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The incident was reported by another <strong data-start=\"1881\" data-end=\"1904\">Deputy U.S. Marshal<\/strong> who witnessed the assault and notified supervisors, prompting an investigation by the <strong data-start=\"1991\" data-end=\"2048\">Department of
