according to <a href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/news\/fox-files\/ex-northwoods-officer-compares-himself-to-jesus-before-sentencing-for-civil-rights-crimes\/\">Fox 2 News in St. Louis Missouri.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Defendant Davis read a long statement as he repeated he was innocent and said, \u201cJesus was prosecuted and accused of things he did not do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Judge Clark looked at the defendant as he said he heard Davis but that the \u201cjury has spoken.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1268\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to evidence presented at trial, Northwoods police responded to a Walgreens on the evening of <strong data-start=\"1067\" data-end=\"1083\">July 4, 2023<\/strong>, after receiving reports that C.G. was suspected of <strong data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1151\">shoplifting<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1171\">trespassing<\/strong>. Davis, who knew the victim, handcuffed him without incident and placed him in a patrol vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1270\" data-end=\"1442\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Instead of transporting C.G. to jail, prosecutors said Davis <strong data-start=\"1331\" data-end=\"1366\">turned off his body-worn camera<\/strong>, drove him to an isolated field in Kinloch, and launched a violent assault.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1656\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Evidence showed Davis <strong data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1484\">pepper-sprayed<\/strong> the handcuffed victim, threw him to the ground, and repeatedly struck him in the face and body with a <strong data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1609\">metal police baton<\/strong>, breaking his jaw and causing severe injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1658\" data-end=\"1796\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">When Davis noticed a passerby nearby, he allegedly <strong data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1725\">used a Taser<\/strong> on the victim and threatened to kill him if he returned to Northwoods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1798\" data-end=\"2018\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Davis then falsely reported to a police dispatcher that C.G. was not at the Walgreens when officers arrived. A short time later, the passerby returned and discovered the victim <strong data-start=\"1975\" data-end=\"2017\">bloodied, injured, and crying for help<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2332\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to a sentencing memorandum filed by federal prosecutors, Davis attacked C.G. to intimidate him and prevent him from returning to Northwoods. Prosecutors noted the victim was physically smaller than Davis and was abandoned in a remote location without a cellphone or any means of calling for assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2334\" data-end=\"2597\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Trial Attorney Taylor Payne of the Justice Department&#8217;s Civil Rights Division told the court that Davis &#8220;<strong data-start=\"2439\" data-end=\"2490\">hurt him with almost every tool at his disposal<\/strong>&#8221; before lying to dispatchers, supervisors, investigators, and ultimately the jury about what had occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST.
