Thompson was walking to a UnitedHealthcare investor conference when he was killed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1176\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Mangione had arrived in New York more than a week before the shooting and conducted surveillance near Thompson\u2019s hotel and the conference venue, according to court records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1310\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">After the shooting, Mangione fled New York. Police arrested him five days later at a McDonald\u2019s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1441\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Authorities said Mangione was carrying a fraudulent driver\u2019s license, a firearm and other evidence connecting him to the killing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1443\" data-end=\"1634\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Mangione pleaded guilty to interstate stalking resulting in death and stalking through the use of interstate facilities resulting in death. He did not plead guilty to a federal murder charge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1636\" data-end=\"1778\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A federal judge previously dismissed two other counts, including a murder charge that could have made Mangione eligible for the death penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1780\" data-end=\"1945\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Mangione still faces a separate New York state prosecution involving Thompson\u2019s killing.
