Former Houston Police Officer Marcos Carrion<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

HOUSTON<\/strong>\u2014A former five-year veteran of the Houston Police Department plead guilty to providing security during a narcotics deal which involved 22 pounds of cocaine, federal officials said last week.<\/p>\n

Marcos E. Carrion plead guilty to conspiring to\u00a0possess with the intent to distribute 11 pounds or more of cocaine from mid-2013 through April 2014. Carrion, 36, had been assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division prior to resigning from his position, officials said.<\/p>\n

As part of his plea agreement, \u00a0authorities said Carrion admitted that he was an Houston officer and that he \u201chad a lot to lose,\u201d but ultimately agreed to providing security in exchange for $2,500.<\/p>\n

After being paid, \u00a0authorities said Carrion falsely claimed another officer was present and demanded another $2,500.<\/p>\n

Carrion also agreed to provide security for future transactions which were to involve up to 66 pounds of cocaine. He claimed he could arrange for additional uniformed officers to assist whom he would pay and instruct to just show up, not ask questions and do what he said.<\/p>\n

He will be sentenced in January and is facing up to life in prison and a $10 million fine, officials said.<\/p>\n
