{"id":745,"date":"2014-02-12T18:42:33","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T02:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=745"},"modified":"2014-02-18T11:21:19","modified_gmt":"2014-02-18T19:21:19","slug":"armenian-power-gang-member-pleads-guilty-role-theft-25-million-bank-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=745","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Power Gang Member Pleads Guilty to Attempted Bank Fraud Involving the Accounts of Elderly People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>LOS ANGELES &#8211;<\/strong> An associate of the Armenian Power gang was convicted Tuesday for his role in attempting to steal \u00a0millions of dollars from the bank accounts of elderly customers, according to the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Andranik Aloyan, 40, of Los Angeles, was among 90 people charged in two indictments, <\/span>\u00a0including a 140-count indictment in July 2011 charging 70 defendants with a variety of criminal activities associated with the Armenian Power gang.<\/p>\n<p>According to evidence at trial, Aloyan possessed personal and financial information of more than 75 mostly elderly customers of banks throughout the country.\u00a0 The combined value of the accounts for which Aloyan possessed account information exceeded $25 million.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment accused 29 defendants, including Aloyan, of participating in the Armenian Power racketeering conspiracy that involved a host of illegal activities such as sophisticated fraudulent schemes of bank fraud, identity theft, debit-card skimming, manufacturing counterfeit checks and laundering criminal proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, defendants in the case were allegedly involved in a variety of violent crimes, such as kidnapping, extortion and firearms offenses, along with other crimes including drug trafficking and illegal gambling.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Aloyan was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, attempted bank fraud, access device fraud, four counts of aggravated identity theft, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"> According to evidence at trial, Aloyan possessed personal and financial information of more than 75 mostly elderly customers of banks throughout the country.\u00a0 The combined value of the accounts for which Aloyan possessed account information exceeded $25 million.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0The indictment accused 29 defendants, including Aloyan, of participating in the Armenian Power racketeering conspiracy that involved a host of illegal activities such as sophisticated fraudulent schemes of bank fraud, identity theft, debit-card skimming, manufacturing counterfeit checks and laundering criminal proceeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0In addition, defendants in the case were allegedly involved in a variety of violent crimes, such as kidnapping, extortion and firearms offenses, along with other crimes including drug trafficking and illegal gambling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">According to court documents, the Armenian Power criminal street gang formed in the East Hollywood district of Los Angeles in the 1980s. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The gang\u2019s membership of 250 people consisted primarily of individuals of Armenian descent, as well as of other countries within the former Soviet bloc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Aloyan is scheduled to be sentenced on June 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOS ANGELES &#8211; An associate of the Armenian Power gang was convicted Tuesday for his role in attempting to steal \u00a0millions of dollars from the bank accounts of elderly customers, according to&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":749,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-745","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-courts"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
