CONNECTICUT<\/strong> \u00a0– A Venezuelan man who made threatening phone calls to residents of Newton, Connecticut, shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting \u00a0plead guilty Thursday, officials announced Friday.<\/p>\n

Wilfrido A. Cardenas Hoffman,<\/strong> 31, of \u00a0El Hatillo, Venezuela, was arrested on June 21 in Miami as he transitioned through Miami International Airport to Mexico from Venezuela, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, \u00a0on December 16, 2012, two days after the shooting that claimed 26 lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Cardenas Hoffman used a voice over application on an iPod to make numerous phone calls from his home in Venezuela to Newton residents.<\/p>\n

In one of the telephone calls, Hoffman stated: \u201cThis is Adam Lanza. I\u2019m gonna [expletive] kill you. You\u2019re dead. You\u2019re dead. You hear me? You\u2019re dead.\u201d In another phone call, Hoffman\u00a0stated: \u201cThis is Adam Lanza. I\u2019m gonna kill you. You\u2019re dead. With my machine gun. You\u2019re dead [expletive].\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Officials said the investigation revealed that Cardenas Hoffman made more than 90 calls to about 47 telephone numbers of Newtown residences. \u00a0Not all of the calls were successfully placed and answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Hoffman\u2019s actions in the days after December 14, 2012, further victimized an already vulnerable community\u201d stated FBI Special Agent in Charge Patricia M. Ferrick.<\/p>\n

Cardenas Hoffman is facing up to five years in prison. \u00a0He will be sentenced in March.<\/p>\n
