{"id":8723,"date":"2015-01-22T21:30:25","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T05:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=8723"},"modified":"2015-01-22T21:30:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T05:30:49","slug":"firefighters-sentenced-prison-tipping-off-drug-dealers-police-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=8723","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters Sentenced to Prison for Tipping Off Drug Dealers About Police Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEWNAN, GA<\/strong>\u2014Former Spalding County Fire Battalion Chief Dwayne <strong>Tyrone Coggins<\/strong> and former Firefighter <strong>Michael Owens<\/strong> have been sentenced for tipping off drug dealers to police activity in the Griffin, Ga., area.<\/p>\n<p>Coggins, 47, of Griffin, Ga., was sentenced to four years in federal prison. Owens, 37, was sentenced to two years, six months in prison. \u00a0Both men are from Griffin, Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Both were convicted in October 2014, after a jury trial.<\/p>\n<p>Coggins was employed by the Spalding County Ga., Fire Department since 1990 and, most recently, served as a Battalion Chief. Owens had been employed by the Spalding County Ga., Fire Department as a firefighter for approximately four years.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe police thought there was no safer place to gather than a fire station. Instead, Coggins and Owens reported what they saw and heard to drug dealers operating in the area without ever considering the safety of the officers who trusted them with sensitive information,\u201d said Acting United States Attorney John A.
