\"courtroom_02\"<\/a>BROOKLYN, NEW YORK<\/strong> –\u00a0An alleged terrorist charged with killing five American servicemen was extradited to the United States, \u00a0federal authorities said Friday<\/div>\n

Faruq Khalil Muhammed Isa,<\/strong> aka \u201cFaruq Khalil Muhammad \u2018Isa,\u201d \u201cSayfildin Tahir Sharif,\u201d and \u201cTahir Sharif Sayfildin,” allegedly aided a suicide bomb attack on the U.S. base in Iraq, officials said.<\/p>\n

The defendant will have an initial court appearance on Saturday. He is \u00a0charged with\u00a0conspiring to kill Americans abroad; and providing material support to a terrorist conspiracy to kill Americans abroad.<\/p>\n

Isa was extradited to the United States from Canada.<\/p>\n

According to court documents and a criminal complaint filed in 2011,\u00a0the defendant is charged in connection with his support for a multinational terrorist network that conducted multiple suicide bombings in Iraq.<\/p>\n

Here are the alleged facts and circumstances surrounding this case:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The defendant assisted in orchestrating an attack on the U.S. Military\u2019s Forward Operating Base Marez in Mosul, Iraq, on April 10, 2009.<\/p>\n

A truck laden with explosives drove to the gate of Base Marez and exchanged fire with Iraqi police officers guarding the base and then with an American convoy exiting the base.<\/p>\n

The truck detonated alongside the last vehicle in the U.S. convoy, leaving a 60-foot crater in the ground.\u00a0 Five American soldiers were killed in the blast.<\/p>\n

The following servicemen were killed:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • \u00a0Staff Sergeant Gary L. Woods<\/strong>, 24, of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky<\/li>\n
  • Sergeant First Class Bryan E. Hall<\/strong>, 32, of Elk Grove, California<\/li>\n
  • Sergeant Edward W. Forrest Jr., 25, of St. Louis, Missouri<\/li>\n
  • Corporal Jason G. Pautsch<\/strong>, 20, of Davenport, Iowa<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Army Private First Class Bryce E. Gaultier<\/strong>, 22, from Cyprus, California.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u201cToday\u2019s extradition demonstrates to those who orchestrate violence against our citizens and our soldiers that there is no corner of the globe from which they can hide from the long reach of the law,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch.<\/p>\n

    Adding, \u201cWe will continue to use every available means to bring to justice those who are responsible for the deaths of American servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price in their defense of this nation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Isa is presumed innocent until proven guilty.<\/p>\n
