{"id":9597,"date":"2015-02-24T13:15:46","date_gmt":"2015-02-24T21:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=9597"},"modified":"2015-02-24T13:15:46","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T21:15:46","slug":"alabama-cop-pleads-guilty-to-trying-to-fix-cocaine-trafficking-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=9597","title":{"rendered":"Alabama Cop Pleads Guilty to Trying to Fix Cocaine Trafficking Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/usdojseal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7674\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/usdojseal-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"usdojseal\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>BIRMINGHAM<\/strong>\u2014A Huntsville police officer plead guilty Tuesday in federal court to taking part in a conspiracy to fix cocaine trafficking charges against an individual arrested by another Huntsville officer, according to federal officials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis Bernard Hall,<\/strong> 45,\u00a0of Meridianville, Ala., entered his guilty plea to the conspiracy before U.S. District Judge R. David Proctor.<\/p>\n<p>His sentencing date has not been set.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA corrupt police officer poisons the public\u2019s trust in law enforcement. Most officers work hard to protect their communities and are willing to put their lives on the line in that service,\u201d \u00a0<strong>U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>Adding, \u201cOur communities need and deserve police officers with that integrity. The conduct of individuals like this defendant is not worthy of the badge and I applaud the work of the Huntsville Police Department and the FBI in bringing Mr. Hall to justice.\u201d<br \/>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/player.ooyala.com\/iframe.js#pbid=725383065a3c4c6a8e6c9b813bd1b5df&amp;ec=pxZTlqcjrbXWR_zRi9A4yxd_QmJfada9\" type=\"mce-no\/type\"><\/script><br \/>\nIn his plea, Hall acknowledged that he conspired with someone identified in court documents as \u201cIndividual B\u201d to pay a fellow police officer $5,000 if that officer would claim a July 29 vehicle search he conducted, which resulted in drug-trafficking charges against \u201cIndividual A,\u201d was unlawful, thereby making the criminal case against Individual A go away, according to officials.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Huntsville officer who conducted the vehicle search and, subsequently, assisted in the investigation of Hall is identified only as <strong>\u201cCooperating Officer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to Hall\u2019s written plea agreement with the government, \u00a0this is what happened:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual A was on supervised release following a 15-year prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance when the Cooperating Officer pulled him over on a traffic stop July 29.<\/li>\n<li>The officer searched the passenger compartment of the vehicle, found about three ounces of cocaine, and took Individual A into custody on a charge of trafficking cocaine.<\/li>\n<li>Hall admits in his plea that on July 31, he and Individual B discussed offering the Cooperating Officer a bribe to tell other law enforcement officers that his search of Individual A\u2019s vehicle was unlawful.<\/li>\n<li>Hall offered the bribe to the Cooperating Officer on July 31, paid him $1,000 on Aug. 12, and had two follow-up conversations in November about what the officer was supposed to say when asked about the search of Individual A\u2019s vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWhile the majority of police officers serve and protect the public with honor, there are those few, like Mr. Hall, who violate the public\u2019s trust and bring dishonor to their badge,\u201d <strong>FBI Special Agent in Charge Roger C. Stanton<\/strong> said. \u201cSimply stated, there is no place in law enforcement for individuals who lack integrity, lie, and violate the very laws they are sworn to uphold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The
